Wisdom Teeth at Angeles Crest Dentistry
The four extra teeth in the back of your mouth, also known as wisdom teeth, are often unnecessary and can cause problems. Wisdom teeth may have been useful hundreds or thousands of years ago. Now, however, the teeth mostly cause overcrowding problems that can lead to pain and decay.
Will I Need My Wisdom Teeth Out?
Some people do not need their wisdom teeth removed because the teeth grow in properly and remain healthy. For others, wisdom teeth may lack enough room to emerge fully or become impacted, meaning they are partially or completely trapped beneath the gums or within the jawbone.
Your dentist may recommend wisdom teeth removal if:
- A tooth grows at an angle and irritates nearby tissues
- A wisdom tooth develops decay that cannot be effectively treated
- The area around a wisdom tooth develops recurring infections
- A wisdom tooth damages a neighboring tooth
- An impacted wisdom tooth causes pain or other dental problems
Routine dental visits allow us to monitor your wisdom teeth and identify potential concerns. If a problem develops, we can discuss whether removal is appropriate for you.
